Whether you are new to yoga or an advanced yoga practitioner, SUP Yoga provides an inclusive, rejuvenating, and fun new spin on the traditional yoga practice! It allows us to combine the physicality of Stand Up Paddle boarding and the beauty and elements of nature and floating on the water with the peace, presence, playfulness, and meditative aspects of our yoga practice. SUP Yoga provides a unique opportunity to explore our asana, pranayama, and meditation practices, while building new confidence and community on the water.

We‘re able to experience a total communion and connection with nature in a safe, accessible, relaxing, and meditative environment. It allows us to become more in tune with our yoga practice, our breath, and our sense of balance on the board, and in each asana. The confidence and courage we develop on the water and in our practice translates far beyond the paddleboard and mat and can positively affect our lives and our community in so many powerful ways. Let the water be your yoga mat and leave feeling confident, refreshed, and empowered!

Class Description:
In this 2-hour alignment-based, all-levels SUP Yoga workshop with Mary Susan we’ll share our deep appreciation of nature and the practice of yoga and welcome the sun and the day by starting the morning off feeling confident, rejuvenated, and refreshed! To begin we will take in the beauty of the San Juans as we do a 5-10 minute stretching session on land. Next, we’ll cover an introduction to Stand Up Paddleboarding including how to stand on the board, the parts of the board and paddle, basic stroke technique, different turn techniques, and how to successfully get back on the board if we are in the water.

The majority of the workshop will be spent enjoying a dynamic and compassionate yoga flow on the board as we slow down to explore precise alignment, breath work, and the fluidity of our floating practice before we end with a relaxing long savasana on our floating studio. The asana poses are presented gently and intelligently with modifications tailored to the student’s experience, practice, and comfort level. Taking our yoga practice to the paddleboard allows us to become more acutely aware of our alignment, balance, and our body in each asana, and really encourages a deeper level of focus and concentration. We are asked to be fully present in the moment, in our practice, and in nature. SUP Yoga invites a sense of playfulness back into our practice, one that we often forget to indulge in as adults.

***Following practice Mary Susan will be taking photos for anyone who would like to capture their SUP Yoga adventure on the water!
